Return to Practice Guidelines

While we are excited to begin our return to basketball training, we are also focused on establishing procedures that will reduce the risks of COVID-19 infection and transmission.

  • Stay Home when Appropriate
    • Individuals, including coaches, players, and families, should stay home if they have tested positive for or are showing COVID-19 symptoms.
    • Individuals, including coaches, players, and families, who have recently had a close contact with a person with COVID-19 should also stay home and monitor their health.
    • If anyone in your household is not feeling well, then the player must not come to practice.
    • If anyone is your household is or has recently experienced any of the following symptoms, then then player must not come to practice: Fever over 99.5, Chills, Cough, Shortness of Breath or Difficulty Breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or Body Aches, Headache, Loss of Taste or Smell, Sore Throat, Congestion or Runny Nose, Nausea or vomiting, Diarrhea
    • Watch for Symptoms and ask your Player before each practice how they feel, so to ascertain if they are symptom free and fit for practice.
    • If anyone in your household has traveled to an area requiring a 14-day quarantine, the player is not allowed to come practice until the quarantine period has elapsed.
  • Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette
    • Individuals, including coaches, players, and families, are to practice good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, including:
      • Frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
      • Avoid touching your face.
      • Cover mouth and nose (with a tissue or paper, arm or elbow, not hands) when coughing or sneezing and wash hands afterward. Used tissues should be thrown in the trash and hands washed immediately with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
      • Avoid shaking hands and high-fives.
      • No spitting
      • Maintain a distance of 6 feet between you and others.
      • Stay home if you feel sick and contact your health care provider.
  • Player Drop-Off / Check-In Process
    • One non-coach parent from each team is allowed in the gym to assist the coach/assistant coach with Check-In of Players.
    • Check-In will take place at the back door of the gym.
    • Players wait in the car with a parent until the coach or assistant signals is it time for Players to Check-In.  The parent must wait in the car until the Coach or assistant advises that the Check-In process is complete.
    • At Check-In, the player will hand-in a completed Health Certification Statement and have a temperature reading taken by the coach or assistant.
    • If a player registers a temperature of 99.5 or above, that player will not be allowed to enter the gym, and the coach will advise the parent of the documented fever.
    • The coach or assistant will mark player attendance and temperature readings on the Check-In Sheet.
    • All Coaches and assistants must also go through the check-in process
  • Player Pick-Up / Staggered Scheduling
    • Parents should wait in the front of the Church for the Players to exit through the front.
    • Practices will be scheduled to allow a ten minute gap to allow for one group to depart before another group enters the gym.
    • Coaches will have their players ready to exit the gym promptly at the scheduled end of their practice time slot.
  • Facilities
    • A thermal temperature scanner will be available at the back entrance to the gym.
    • Signage will be displayed within the gym to remind players of proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, and to provide them with a space for water breaks.
    • Only one person will be allowed in the bathroom at a time.
    • Players must bring their own water, sharing is not allowed.
    • Use of the water fountain is not allowed.
  • Wearing of Masks and Social Distancing
    • Players are to arrive for Check-In wearing a mask and social distance themselves from others while awaiting check-in.
    • The requirement around mask wearing during actual practice time will be reassessed regularly by program coordinators.  Players and coaches should be prepared to practice in a mask if that is the coach's instruction on that day.
    • Coaches are required to have a mask on them at all times in the event that they need to interact closely with players and must wear a mask if within six feet of players.
    • Coaches will instruct and remind players to try and maintain social distancing standards of 6' or more during practice, water breaks, and whenever possible.
